SANAGAN’S MEAT LOCKER COVID-19 POLICIES AND SAFETY PLAN

Sanagan's Meat Locker, in accordance with the recommendation set in place by Toronto Public Health, has the following store policies set to protect the health of both the workers and the customers:

FOR CUSTOMERS:

1) We are limiting the maximum number of customers in the store, based on the size of the shop. Currently that means six at Kensington and two at Gerrard. This number may fluctuate depending on staffing abilities.

2) Signs are posted on the entrances of the stores communicating our policies, and customers are directed not to enter the store if:

  • They are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19
  • They have been outside of the country in the 14 days prior
  • They have been exposed to a positive case of Covid-19 in the last 14 days

3) If possible, we are asking customers to pay with a credit or debit card, and limit the amount of cash we handle in store.

4) All customers are told they must wear a mask while shopping, in accordance to Ontario and Toronto Public Health bylaws. We also offer disposable masks for free at the front door.

5) All customers are requested to use the free, offered hand sanitizer located at the entrance to the store as well as at the cash registers.

6) We are offering a delivery and curbside pick up option for customers so they don’t have to come in to the store.

 

FOR STAFF (PPE AND BASIC COVID RULES):

1) Staff are instructed to properly wear masks at all times while at work. This applies to cooks, butchers, customer service staff, and delivery drivers. The mask must fully cover your nose and mouth, in accordance with the requirements from Toronto Public Health,

2) Staff and customers are instructed to keep a distance of 2 meters form each other whenever possible while in the store.

3) Staff are instructed to be vigilant with the washing of their hands while at work, or sanitize their hands often (with an alcohol-based solution of 70% or higher alcohol content) when washing them is not available. Handwashing is the most important thing to do. Wash or sanitize your hands before and after all tasks, wearing of gloves, or handling of products.

4) Staff are advised not to touch their face. The virus is commonly transmitted via hands to eyes/nose/mouth. 

5) Staff are trained to clean and disinfect all touch points every 20 minutes throughout the entire store. This includes shared equipment, door handles, tools, cash registers, laptops, phones, and windows handles. The store undergoes a thorough cleaning every night. All disinfectants used are formulated specifically to combat the Covid-19 virus.

6) Staff must wear disposable gloves while at work, and wash or sanitize their hands before changing into new gloves, and after removing the gloves.

 

FOR STAFF: SCREENING AND DISTANCING

1) Staff must fill out an “Employee Disclosure Form” screening tool before entering the workplace. This is a health-assessment form that asks if the worker has symptoms of Covid-19, or has been in contact with anyone with possible Covid-19 symptoms. The data is stored in a Google Form. If a worker exhibits one of the following symptoms, they are instructed to stay home, isolate, and contact Public Health for further direction. (Symptoms should not be chronic or related to other known causes or conditions).

  • Fever or 37.8°C or Chills/Body Aches
  • Difficulty Breathing or Shortness of Breath
  • New or Worsening Cough

The following symptoms should be monitored and included in the screening tool. Staff with these symptoms may still be able to work and monitor these symptoms, as long as they aren’t in combination with the aforementioned symptoms.

  • Sore Throat/Trouble Swallowing
  • Runny Nose, Stuffy Nose, or Nasal Congestion
  • Gastrointestinal Symptoms – Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Abdominal Pain
  • Decrease or Loss of Smell and/or Taste
  • Not Feeling Well, Extreme Tiredness, Sore Muscles

2) Staff must maintain a physical distance of 6 feet (2 meters) from each other at all times. This is most important in work area where workers remain stationary for 15 minutes or more, as well as in the staff break room. The break room has a maximum capacity of 3 people, and seats are designated where staff can sit and remain distanced from each other.

These policies will be monitored and updated from time to time as per the recommendations and new regulations from Toronto Public Health and Ontario Public Health.
